Well if that file "belongs" to gnome-themes-standard-data than it
should probably simply remove the alternative in the maintainer scripts
in the maintainer scripts.
Otherwise that symlink will remain forever.

I've just seem that the dir itself would be still part of adwaita-icon-
theme, even though empty.

But the index.theme seems to be some stale leftover file, isnt't it?
