Some more information about netcdf4. The library is now built with
extended netcdf4 support, which implies having to link hdf5 and libz.
That could cause configuration tests failing for third parties software
and could require appropriate patching. 
It actually happens now for gdal, for instance. 

Netcdf4 includes now a pkg-config snippet, which could
be used to infer the right ccflags and ldflags combinations. Unfortunately,
that did not happen for netcdf3, so that 3rd parties programs
currently still have their own ways to detect libs and link.

So, definitively be warned: netcdf4 will require probably a bit of work
on your side to avoid FTBSes.
