Sorry for the late response.

I'd be interested to hear what you have been doing with the
optimizations, and what you might like to contribute.

My effort to get an updated version of SGE into Debian has stalled, but
I want to find time to get back to it, but I'm not actually a Debian
developer.

The development site for the basic code is
https://arc.liv.ac.uk/trac/SGE/, and the "gridengine.debian" source repo
is my attempt at packaging for Debian (as opposed to add-on packaging
that doesn't obey Debian guidelines).  There's an official repo for that
which I need to merge into, but I don't have the URL to hand.
