Bug#284790: update-grub: Silently fails if root device doesn't exist.

On a strangely installed system I'm currently rescuing, /etc/fstab had the line

/dev/hda3	/	ext3	errors=remount-ro		0	0

In reality, though, /dev/hda3 didn't exist, but instead the root
partition showed up as /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 (this
system is a bit FUBARed when it comes to if it uses sysfs or not. As I
said, I'm doing a rescue operation here).

This is of course not a very normal situation, but I still think it
would be nice if update-grub could warn about a non-existing root
partition, instead of just silently exiting with exit code 1.
