>From my build log, using pbuilder in an i386 chroot:

...
gcc -Iutil -I./util -I. -Iinclude -I./include -Wall -W -DGRUB_DATADIR=\"/usr/share/grub/i386-pc\" -g -O2 -DGRUB_UTIL=1 -c -o grub_emu-util_console.o util/console.c
util/console.c:21:20: curses.h: No such file or directory
util/console.c:26: error: `A_NORMAL' undeclared here (not in a function)
util/console.c: In function `grub_ncurses_putchar':
util/console.c:31: warning: implicit declaration of function `addch'
...
make[1]: *** [grub_emu-util_console.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/grub2-0.6+20050203/build-tree/src'
make: *** [debian/stamp-makefile-build] Error 2

Adding libncurses5-dev to the Build-Depends allows the package to
build.
