Erm... you checked in conflicting code:

for kern in $(/bin/ls -1vr /boot | grep -v "dpkg-*" | grep "^vmlinuz-") ; do
        # found a kernel
<<<<<<< .mine
        kern="/boot/$kern"
=======
        kern="/boot/$kern"
>>>>>>> .r39
