Edit menu.lst in postinst script

Hi all,

I'm packaging the bootsplash scripts [0] for kernel boot splash
support. In order to have a fully automated setup, the package would
need to edit the menu.lst file and add options like:

# kopt=<standard options> splash=silent vga=791

and then run update-grub.

Is there a recommended way to do this in a script?

Maybe it would be better not to edit menu.lst directly, and implement
some support for modularized configuration [1] in update-grub, for
example having a directory

where other packages can drop files with chunks of configuration.
