Package: udev
Version: 0.046-5
Severity: important

I have a motherboard containing an Intersil S-ATA controller which
controls my HDD. It was mapped to /dev/sda by devfs and is so with udev
as well.
Unfortunately I can't install grub into the MBR of that disk, because
udev doesn't seem to map the drive correctly:

=2D------------- snip ----------------
inuit:~# grub-install --no-floppy /dev/sda
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/disc does not have any corresponding
BIOS drive.
inuit:~# mbchk /dev/sda
/dev/sda: No Multiboot header.
=2D------------- snip ----------------

These files control udev on my computer:

=2D------------- snip ----------------
inuit:~# ls /etc/udev/rules.d/
cd-aliases.rules compat-full.rules devfs.rules
=2D------------- snip ----------------

Both GRUB and udev are the latest versions available in unstable.

Pls let me know if I can be of any help to solve this.

        Best regards from Rostock, Germany,

                Friedemann
