Hello, I just tried to find out myself if Robert's patch helps. The good news is that it does. To reproduce I just had to duplicate the /dev/md0 device to /dev/.tmp.md0 mdadm is using these temporary devices but it should delete them if they're no longer used. If it doestn't do this then you should file a bugreport for this.
