Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20080617-1
Followup-For: Bug #486804

i'm encountering something similar to this bug report.

my / is on lvm, but my /boot partition is just a plain ext3 partition

іn /boot/grub/grub.conf:

  set root=(vg-root)

changing it to:

  set root=(hd0,1)

fixes the issue for me. re-running update-grub breaks it again.

it seems update-grub is overly eagre to find an lvm'ed filesystem when
it doesn't really need to.

live well,
