Actually it should only do this if you installed GRUB to a different MBR
then the disk where your /boot/grub is.
Check with echo $prefix if prefix is a normal GRUB device or some
(UUID=abc123)
If it's UUID reinstall to the MBR where /boot/grub is and then change
your BIOS to boot from that disk
