Hmm, I seem to remember reading that with a direct EFI boot you lose out on all accellerated video (which of course is no use whatsoever!). If that is no longer the case, I guess I'm just seriously out of date with GRUB knowledge, and when I get some spare time i'll browse the documentation and have a play around!
