Erm, sorry, that's not the problem.  Actually I can't make any sense of this;
the error you see is caused by load_env, and it is clear why it fails, but
load_env failure is *not* supposed to interrupt build.

So either there's something wrong with error handling or it's just a red
herring and the problem is something entirely different.

Does this problem happen with 1.98~20100101-1 ?  (make sure you re-run *both*
grub-install and update-grub after downgrading the package)
