Bug#598961: grub breaks after kernel upgrade

15:36 < col> rjk: I think this is one of those situations where I
need to be sitting in front of it, but it might not hurt to run
'grub-install --debug <whatever your other args to grub-install
are>' before and after upgrading the kernel, and send me the
output from both runs

Both are attached. The only thing that happened between them was a
kernel upgrade (transcript also attached).

As you will see the debug output from save_blocklists() is completely
different.

However ... it seems that grub-install invokes grub-mkimage resulting in
a new core.img, at a different physical location, each time.

/boot is an ext3 filesystem.
