Bug#565486: can't boot from partition of higher number than partition beyond bios limit

Arthur Marsh arthur.marsh at internode.on.net
Fri Jan 7 18:30:49 UTC 2011

Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.99~20110106-1
Severity: normal

The disk identified as /dev/sdb below is a 40 GB disk in a machine whose
BIOS only sees the first 32 GiB of the disk.

At the GRUB prompt, ls returns the following for this disk:

(hd1) (hd1,msdos3) (hd1,msdos1)

ls (hd1,msdos1)/ works but ls (hd1,msdos3)/ does not, and there
is no sign of (hd1,msdos5) or (hd1,msdos7)

grub-emu reports similar results.
