Hello, GnuTLS 2 and 3 are not completely API compatible. And given that this transition is basically finished (except for openldap and about 10 packages which build-depend on libgnutls-dev without generating binaries that depend on libgnutls26), I would like to keep the small benefit of having this incompatibility reflected in the package name. cu Andreas -- `What a good friend you are to him, Dr. Maturin. Indeed, the benefit seems rather small compared to making all further gnutls transition more painful by forcing all of its reverse b-d to provide a sourceful upload instead of triggering a simple binNMU when possible. (e.g. efl shows up, but is fixed in sid and testing.). Ignoring experimental and sid-only packages (these are the ones that were removed from testing because of rc-bugs) leaves us with 12 bugs, and about half of these are due to a unused b-d. > (FWIW, I?ve finished rebuilding gst-plugins-bad0.10 with a b-d on > libgnutls28-dev, but since it seems to take the problem from the wrong > side, I?d prefer to wait for a confirmation before an upload; I?m also > retrying to build 0.10.23-7.2?). I think there is small misunderstanding: The fact that we now have libgnutls28-dev does not mean that we will have matching versioned development packages (libgnutls{30,31,31,etc}-dev) for the library package (libgnutls{30,31,31,etc}) in later versions. There is no reason why future gnutls transition should be hurt by the current naming of the gnutl development package. And just as an additional data point, only a very small number packages is still refering to "libgnutls-dev": ametzler at argenau:/tmp$ echo -n "possibly still using libgnutls-dev " ; grep-dctrl -F Build-Depends,Build-Depends-Indep -s Package libgnutls-dev /chroots/sid/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_debian_dists_sid_main_source_Sources | sort -u | wc ; echo -n "switched to libgnutls28-dev " ; grep-dctrl -F Build-Depends,Build-Depends-Indep -s Package libgnutls28-dev /chroots/sid/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.de.debian.org_debian_dists_sid_main_source_Sources | sort -u | wc possibly still using libgnutls-dev 37 74 744 switched to libgnutls28-dev 107 214 1898 I hope this explains things a little bit better. cu Andreas -- `What a good friend you are to him, Dr. Maturin. But that happens for example, when FFmpeg/Libav is configured >> with --enable-small. >> In that case the plugin segfaults, when gstreamer tries to load it (see >> the attached backtrace). >> >> So please add the necessary checks for NULL pointers. > > Well, just don't build libav/ffmpeg with --enable-small :) This is not > supported by gst-libav and even if we add NULL checks everywhere would > result in a package with less functionality. Basically all demuxers and > muxers would be disabled. The problem is that it is not guaranteed that every AVInputFormat has a long name. And even if only one doesn't, gst-libav becomes unusable, because it crashes during initialization. This happened e.g. with FFmpeg 2.3 and can be easily reproduced, when building with --enable-small. Anyway it isn't advisable to rely on long_name, because that is meant only as a human-readable description, which might e.g. get reformulated. It would be better to only rely on AVInputFormat.name, which is a comma separated list of short names for the format and is guaranteed to be present. Message-ID: <20141027124921.GA7402@greenwood> Package: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg Version: 0.10.13-5 Severity: grave Hi, it seems that gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg cannot be installed in unstable (let alone testing). Are there any plans to fix this? I'm currently trying to update the "miro" package to the latest upstream but since miro depends on gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg I probably won't be able to make a useful upload. I've seen there's a gstreamer1.0-libav package, but that would probably require all of miro to be ported to the gstreamer1.0 API, right? Not sure whether that's easily doable with a small patch, sounds like a bigger effort to me (though I could be wrong). Hence, it would be nice if there were a working gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg package in unstable/testing so that e.g. miro is still usable until a gstreamer1.0 porting has happened. Thanks for considering. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16-3-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg depends on: ii libavcodec53 6:0.8.8-1 ii libavformat53 6:0.8.8-1 ii libavutil51 6:0.8.8-1 ii libc6 2.19-12 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.0-2 ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.36-2 ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.36-1.4 ii liborc-0.4-0 1:0.4.22-1 ii libpostproc52 6:0.git20120821-4 ii libswscale2 6:10.3-1 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg recommends no packages. gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- http://hermann-uwe.de | http://randomprojects.org | http://sigrok.org From owner at bugs.debian.org Mon Oct 27 17:54:10 2014 From: owner at bugs.debian.org (Debian Bug Tracking System) Date: Mon, 27 Oct 2014 17:54:10 +0000 Subject: Processed: jessie References: <201410271850.51541.holger@layer-acht.org> Message-ID: Processing commands for control at bugs.debian.org: > tags 766955 + sid jessie Bug #766955 [arc, arcanist] arcanist and arc: error when trying to install together Added tag(s) sid and jessie. > tags 766974 + sid jessie Bug #766974 [src:asterisk-espeak] asterisk-espeak: FTBFS: fails to build with asterisk 13.
