I just upgraded to hplip 2.8.4-1 but unfortunately, the bug is still there. The only thing that changed is the error message in /var/log/messages. Now it just reads: May 25 21:40:51 chrulli xsane: failed to open scan channel: scan/sane/hpaio.c 656 One line shorter. :-)
