From mitya57 at gmail.com Mon Aug 11 10:54:55 2014 From: mitya57 at gmail.com (Dmitry Shachnev) Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2014 14:54:55 +0400 Subject: [Pkg-hpijs-devel] Bug#757790: hplip-gui: Please consider porting to python-notify2 Message-ID: <20140811105455.12538.57535@mitya57.local> Package: hplip-gui Version: 3.14.6-1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer, hplip-gui currently recommends python-notify, which in turn depends on python-gtk. Both python-gtk and python-notify are obsolete and we are going to remove them at some point. Also, none of these packages supports Python 3, so if you will ever switch to Python 3, you need to get rid of python-notify usage first. The recommended alternative is python-notify2, which is a lightweight pure-Python interface to notification protocol. It was designed to be as compatible with python-notify as possible, so porting is very easy. See http://sources.debian.net/src/python-notify2/0.3-2/notify2.py/#L18 for details. Another alternative will be using libnotify via gobject-introspection. Both these alternatives are modern, supported, and Python 3 compatible. -- Dmitry Shachnev -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... In-Reply-To: <20110309095809.GC5513@trout.vub.ac.be> References: <20110307114030.GA2243@rcpc42.vub.ac.be> <20110307181959.GC31098@mykerinos.kheops.frmug.org> <20110309095809.GC5513@trout.vub.ac.be> Message-ID: <87mwaq8c28.fsf@lant.ki.iif.hu> Hi, On my wheezy system: $ dpkg-statoverride --list /var/run/hplip hplip root 755 /var/run/hplip $ getent passwd hplip hplip:x:113:7:HPLIP system user,,,:/var/run/hplip:/bin/false so the user is present, thus this override does not cause any problem. The hplip package is installed, however, $ ls -ld /var/run/hplip ls: cannot access /var/run/hplip: No such file or directory Also, it's a standard setup, so /var/run is a symlink to /run, which is a tmpfs. In this setting, this override does not seem to be useful anymore. It's managed in hplip.post{inst,rm}, but that stuff should probably be removed, especially since /etc/init.d/hplip does not exist anymore. So after some cleanup this report could be closed, I think. -- Thanks, Feri.
