You are using git repo in an interesting way.

You updated master without merging from the new upstream.  This is
normally expected for git-import-dsc related git repo.

You are not updating the pristine-tar.  So I do not know what exactly
you used to make your local package. git-import-orig with --pristine-tar
should have created it.  (Of course, we can get it into usable state
using pristine-tar command).

Let me sort out this confused state of git repo first.

In the mean time, please read "The  Git-Buildpackage  Manual".
