Ritesh,

I can confirm that all four boxes are running 32 bit userlands environments.
(i do too many nasty things with pointers, and am lazy. :)

the initiator is:
Linux qemuhost 2.6.32-5-amd64 #1 SMP Wed May 18 08:00:46 UTC 2011 x86_64
GNU/Linux

the target:
Linux qemuhost 2.6.32-5-486 #1 Tue Mar 8 21:03:02 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

So yes, we're mixing archetectures on the machines that are broken, AND we
are not mixing archetectures on the machines that work. The working boxes
are:

target:
Linux qemuhost 2.6.35.8-libre2-planet #1 SMP Thu Nov 4 11:01:19 CET 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

initiator:

More data. hope it helps. we're working on instrumenting to see whats going
wrong here, and on reproducing it. We've still got far to go.
