Hi Buddies,

Anthony Green made an Ant task to build java libs to native using
gcj[1]. I know we don't like to make forks (that's not exactly a
fork). Also, from his website, here is the todo list:

  # Testing and bug reporting.
  # Better documentation.
  # Improve this boring web page.
  # Find a hosting service for cvs and mailing lists.
  # Lobby the Ant developers for inclusion in the official Ant
    distribution.

I think Debian can benefit his work and Debian can help him about
feedbacks and testing, and also, why not, lobbying Ant developers.

About nearly the same subject, I patched the gcj's javac ant task (first
written by Takashi I think, because Ant developers removed all the
@author tags) so it should be possible to build java to native using
javac task with gcj and some arguments. This patch has been sent to the
Ant developers list, but no feedback was given. The task did not work
with gcj 3.3 because of the ABI problem but maybe this will be resolved
soon and the task will just do the job! ;-) I already added the patch in
the ant source package so everybody can add the patch by rebuilding the
package, but can I add the patch for everybody in Debian?

PS: When I speak about ant, it's in fact libant1.6-java
