[Apparently, mail to libpgjava@packages.qa.debian.org does not get
through, so I'm writing again.]

I have been working with the authors of the PostgreSQL JDBC driver
(libpgjava) to enable it to work with free software. As of right now,
the development version, which will become 8.0.something, compiles and
runs with jikes and sablevm. You get the JDBC 3 variant, but without
SSL support (because classpath doesn't support the Java SSL API yet).

Considering that JDBC 3 without SSL is probably just right for most
users, I think when PostgreSQL 8.0 is released, it would be nice to
split the package into a free and non-free part and move the free part
into main. I have added some information to http://java.debian.net/
about this.

What do you think? I'd also be willing to help out to make this happen.
