Running make-jpkg simply fails like so:

wilfred@piccolo:src$ whoami
wilfred
wilfred@piccolo:src$ fakeroot make-jpkg jre-1_5_0_01-linux-i586.bin
dh_testroot: You must run this as root (or use fakeroot).

Debugging via Jabber showed the submitter setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH in
.bashrc
