Klaus,
     This is a very unfortunate time for you in trying to get tomcat4  
working.  Kaffe has some issues when it is used to run tomcat4, and  
the only way to run it reliably is to use a non-free JDK.  I would  
recommend trying the Blackdown packages for right now, because recent  
dpkg changes have broken the java-package utility.  Hopefully we will  
have that fixed soon, and you can then have your pick of JDKs to  
try.  Sorry I don't have better news right now.  You can search the  
debian-java and pkg-java-maintainers lists for more info on Tomcat 4  
running on Kaffe.
     I just got back from holiday and am pretty swamped at work.   
Working over the weekend to try and catch up.  With DebConf5 underway  
right now, the java-package fix may be delayed a bit.
