Bug#374928: I have the same problem in 5.0.30-12etch1 tomcat5 version

When I try to deploy an application I get this error:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/Catalina/localhost/myapplication.xml (Permission denied)

Owner of /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/Catalina/ is root and group root.

localhost# ls -lsd /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/Catalina/
4 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 2009-03-06 12:18 /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/Catalina/

And of /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/ is tomcat5 and group adm.

localhost# ls -lsd /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/
4 drwxr-x--- 3 tomcat5 adm 4096 2009-03-06 16:48 /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/

I have made:

localhost# chown -R tomcat5 /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/
localhost# chgrp -R adm /var/lib/tomcat5/conf/

and the problem have gone away.
