True, this is already reported as #890905/#893138.

It's not ignored, the problem is that openjdk-9 also provides the
java8 interface ... Cf. /usr/lib/java-wrappers/jvm-list.sh

You can run
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/ jabref
