could you please explain a little more. This regression was introduced
by upgrading node-gyp without gyp, right?

Shouldn’t the newer node-gyp package then depend on the newer gyp
version too? If my assessment is true, then this is a bug in the
node-gyp package.

Could you please clarify and reopen this bug report if I am correct?
