You find the URL of the upstream package in the get-orig-source rule in
jed-extra/debian/rules (it is jedmodes-2.1.3.tgz now).

While we have to ensure that we do not end up in a unusable state, I
suppose the need for adaptions to the personal configurations can be
tolerated.

Could you please test it on your system and add any steps needed for
your personal configuration to the jed-extra Documentation? (changelog
if it regards only this version step, README.Debian if it is persistent)

Definitely. And I would rather drop jed-extra completely than have the
next release still with jed-99.17.

So IMO, jed-extra should come out ASAP.
