Ok, I got around the problem by starting anew with git clone.  I have the
impression that the complexity of git is an order of magnitude higher than
svn.  I hope I will be fluent in git someday.  Your tutorials are of great
help, thanks.

I am currently building 0.99.19~pre143-2 and will soon upload/commit it.
