I do not see the problem in doing this.  There is no other place where we
can record changes in the packaging files (besides the SMC logs, of
course, but they are not distributed with the package).

There is nothing in the Policy and the packaging practices that
discourage doing it.  On the contrary, the more information, the better.

YMMV, of course.
