------- Additional Comments From markus relix de 2006-06-19 03:13 -------
Dear community,

perhaps I can contribute with a symptom: One of my kolab / kontact users
recently complained about the following: Emails come in into the inbox and
when he clicks on such an email, it suddenly changes into a blank mail,
containing nothing but "unknown subject", "unknown sender" and "unknown
receiver". It seems to be due to the fact that his client computer crashed
some time before and that the index was somehow corrupted.

I could state that on the server side, the email contained just a short
string "X-UID:0" or something like that. Obviously the client index
inconsistency was reflected back onto the server again, and there the email
was deleted, too.

Perhaps the issue is due to some index corruption on the client side, which
can happen at the moment of a client crash. Obviously the client side index
is not crash-safe.

I'm not a programmer and I don't know anything about the kmail code, but
perhaps a start point of these problems would be the question where a client
crash can corrupt the index - as such index corruptions will be reflected to
the server and there the emails get deleted. - so that nothing will be left.

Best wishes,

Markus
