Others have pointed this out as well, but in my book the main point of dIMAP is for sharing contacts/todos/calendar/... among many machines.  I'd gladly use plain IMAP (and tried to, once) if all my kde-pim info stayed sync'ed and useable.

This is the great downside of disabling dimap at this point: it will kill significant functionality that can't be had any other way.
