I for one never sync partially. I automatically synchronize periodically every 
some minutes and if I need to, I synchronize manually. It was quite obvious 
to me, that I would lose uncommitted changes when rebuilding the folder 
index, so I never did that (why would I anyway?).

So maybe your habits of dealing with mails does not fit well with the idea 
that the kmail developers had, when implementing dimap.

In any case, kmail/kontact should never crash and never lead to data loss. 

The report in comment #166 however is IMO not a bug at all. That's just how 
dimap works in kmail. You commit your changes only during synchronization, 
and not upon every single action. Rebuilding the index obviously clears all 
the locally stored changes, so it's no wonder they are lost.

The crashes in #161 and #162 seem to be valid though, so I'm gonna reopen this 
bug (note that I'm not a kmail developer).
