A simple way would be, to just uninstall it and see if you can still reproduce
the problem.

I do not recommend laptop-mode tools anyway, as it does a lot more then just
activating the kernel laptop_mode and overlaps / duplicates functionality of
pm-utils which is used by default.

If you are using KDE4 that is definitely a good idea.
