I wasn't planning on that but it did test out OK, on this system at least.

If my AM agrees that I've done the NMU properly, I'll add the patch to
the bug report to change Build-Depends from gtk2-engines-clearlook to
gtk2-engines. There's already a hint in the bug report that this is the
likely solution, all I've done is test that theory within pbuilder.

$ debdiff ldm_0.87debian2_all.deb ldm_0.87debian2.1_all.deb

File lists identical (after any substitutions)

Control files: lines which differ (wdiff format)
------------------------------------------------
Version: [-0.87debian2-] {+0.87debian2.1+}
Depends: openssh-client | ssh, python, python-gtk2, python2.3-gnome2 |
python-gnome2, python-glade2, [-gtk2-engines-clearlooks,-]
{+gtk2-engines,+} xserver-xorg | xserver-xfree86 | xserver

plus this in the debian/changelog:
ltsp (0.87debian2.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Uninstallable due to unmet dep on gtk2-engines-clearlooks (Closes:
    #377408)
    gtk2-engines now includes clearlooks so change the dependency to
    the base package, gtk2-engines.
