I don't remember when this came up for the first time but I think it was
on -release when vorlon was still in charge of the release. So maybe the
etch release cycle.

The latest reference is this post from Roger who mentions this change
affecting schroot:

I'm currently preparing a patch for lyx (again).
Those changing sonames with boost are pain. :-(
