If you don't like our recommendations just apt-get --no-install-recommends
and decide for your own what you'd like to add on top.

Beside that please take a look at the changelog, it's there for a reason.
  * Add texlive-science to Recommends. It's not big, and it's required
    for compiling the LyX math manual. Closes: #508939
  * Add librsvg2-bin | inkscape to the Recommends to support SVG image
    handling (new in LyX 1.6.6).

I for one find it pretty essential to have the ability to include images in
your documents and view the created pdfs (and for evince case to view the
postscript or dvi output if you like).

IMO this bug is invalid, if you don't have something more convincing I'm
going to close it.

As an anecdote I can add that lately some users complaint that those lousy
LyX packages in Debian and the brown downstream Distro even depend on the
distro texlive packages. Which is of course soooo bogus cause they're always
outdated and if you remove them the stinky package system will also remove
their beloved LyX. *sigh*
