fyi - I guess this one is no longer relevant by now.
I'd vote for closing the original Debian bug as well.

New description:

 Hi,
this is a forward of a bug from the Debian BTS.
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=506183

I can't reproduce this one but for the user it's there since 1.6.0. I'm
 not sure
if it's something broken on the LyX side or if it's really something
 that's
fishy with his TeX installation. Per claimed that he got some similar
 problems
with 1.6.0 but had no time so far to comment on his situation with 1.6.1.

If he tries to view the UserGuide he'll ends up with the following error
 message:

 """
LaTex error: command \DH unavailable in encoding OT1

followed by three more such errors, with \dh, \TH and \th

In the description pane (for \DH):

  ...& ' & p & & & & \textdegree{} & &
                                                    & & \tabularnewline
 Your command was ignored.
Type I <command> <return> to replace it with another command,
or <return> to continue without it.

 For \dh:

  ...& & & & \textdegree{} & & & &
                                                   \tabularnewline

 For \TH:

  ...istered{} & \textthreequarters{} & &
                                                    & & \tabularnewline

 For \th:

  ...} & \textthreequarters{} & & & &
                                                   \tabularnewline
 """
