I find only one place where it does it from debconf; I'm a rookie as
far as debconf is concerned. Could you please help me? What do you
suggest? Should writing to STDERR and reading a keystroke from the TTY
be replaced by a debconf note?

This was filed separately (and more recently) and is now done. Also
does it automatically when possible.
