Idea: for pages like
http://.....org/mailman/listinfo/.....
where it says to
  Pick a password:
  Reenter password to confirm:
  Would you like to receive list mail batched in a daily digest? No Yes
Add the question
  Would you like to receive list mail at all? No Yes
Because nowadays many people read via e.g., gmane.org, and just
subscribe for posting privileges, so this additional default form
choice can save them an extra step later, and also avoid mail
bombardment in the interim.
