[Pkg-mailman-hackers] Introduction and a plan

Hello all,

I've seen Lionel's request for help with mailman, and since I use it on
a few different sites I felt the need to help out, so here I am. My goal
for now is to make a dent in the mailman bugs list and get some of the
backlog cleared.

Since manpower is appearently limited, I'm trying to distribute the work
where possible: ask submitters of older / unreproducible issues to
verify their bugs in the most recent version, forward to upstream things
in the upstream code.

I think it's best to concentrate on the Debian-specific stuff first and
defer upstream stuff to upstream for now, so I will. I've already
addressed some of the documentation bugs (but my commit access is not
working yet), and want to look into getting the package split issue that
has been longstanding finally resolved. I've asked Pierre to help with
the Python transition.

Let me propose the goal for the next upload:
* Do the Python transition;
* Fix the epoch issue;
* Fix all documentation bugs;
* Do the package split.
because I think we should help to get the Python transition completed as
quickly as possible, because the documentation stuff is a good point for
me to get started and because the package split has been longstanding
and shouldn't be done right before a release.

I'll be committing stuff to this extent soon (as soon as Alioth knows
that I'm allowed to) - feel free to comment at any time. Stuff is easily
reverted and feedback greatly appreciated (mail, OFTC/Freenode nickname
'kink', Jabber/ICQ/MSN etc available).

bye,
Thijs
