Hey all,

This morning our commit access was activated on alioth, and Riccardo,
Hector and me instantly started (ab)using it to beat the mailman package
into an even better shape than it used to be.

We've all joined #debian-mailman on OFTC to coordinate our efforts -
please drop in if you're interested too.

What's the current status?
- As we speak, twenty-two bugs are tagged pending;
- Quite some non-bug packaging tweaks have been applied;
- A batch of old bugs have been closed, some others forwarded upstream.

On IRC we discussed when to release, and I was convinced to drop the
target of including the package split: it's important to get a fixed
version relatively soon into the archive to fix the current upgrading
nuissance of mailman. Regarding the Python transition, it would be nice
to include it in -2 but not blocking. So, the proposed schedule is now:

- Until tomorrow afternoon, apply any further fixes;
- After that, anyone can review and test the package;
- Sunday night or Monday we'll upload the version -2.

Right after, we'll start on making -3 which will include the package
split, and some templates fixes; I've held back on the latter because
changing the templates implies giving translators the time to catch up.
Rather do that on -3. I expect -3 to be ready in a couple of weeks.

Let us know what you think, of course specifically about the pending -2!
