No. As far as I am concerned, in the current state of my knowledge of
the options, if switch there is, it will be to putting the whole
sources in a full-blown VCS with good merge support. Which doesn't
mean I think it would be an overall improvement over the current
situation.

I fear we are part of these "fools not using cdbs" (see the
description of the quilt package).

If you feel like changing the current state of my knowledge of the
options and advocate quilt, I'm all ears ... err... all eyes.

 Oh, there is a much easier way to achieve that: summarily drop any
 patch that doesn't apply anymore.
