Well, this boils down to "something unexpected will happen if I'm
pressing other keys than intended". :-)

Which is very convinient because I usually want to edit the command line
if there is something typed - otherwise I want to navigate.  So for me
this is definitely a feature.

It makes changing directory even more easy intentionally! ;-)

Sure.  So as I said:  Keep on the nice packaging work without regarding
my personal preference settings (you will get used to it anyway ;-)).
