Debian's mdadm currently does not really support non-standard array
names, like /dev/md/[^0-9]*. The reason is mostly because upstream's
way of handling them is unnecessarily complex, counter-intuitive and
even illogical. Thus, I wanted to first work with upstream to clean
up the mess a bit. And I can't find time for it.
If you would like to work on adding support for v1-named arrays
(/dev/md/arrayname), then please go ahead. I'd love several small,
non-intrusive patches and it would be even better, if you could
resolve this with upstream.
I'll thus mark this wontfix help now. If you want to help out,
you'll know what to do.
