   * What led up to the situation?
Upgraded Debian "stable" to 8.4.
For testing also built a new Debian "stable" 8.4 server.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
Built RAID1 array with 2 disks, /dev/sbd and /dev/sdc
Disks were not partitioned prior to create.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Every 5 minutes /var/log/kern.log gets spammed with these messages:
