Do you mean multiple code bases or multiple databases? We have quite a
few installations that run off the same code base and do some clever
trickery and magic in config.php to determine what database to look at
based on the virtual host.

One idea would be perhaps to split out language packs.

Another thing (not sure if you've got this in 1.5.x or not) is adding a
cronjob to do post-upload virus scanning.

Oooh another thing would be to see if we could integrate the bounce
handling we added in 1.5... it's kinda tricky
