Based on a quick look at the code for uppity it doesn't look like there
is anything useful for this, so perhaps it is a pipe dream...

...but perhaps we need to approach this from another angle. This is a
problem both inside and outside of Debian, so why not solve it upstream?

I thought initially, add to Firefox an API number X.Y for plugins that
would function like ABI numbers. I'm not familiar with the Firefox
plugin APIs so I don't know if that would work. It might be that the
APIs are independent and a single API number would not work. In that
case I guess Firefox could declare a bunch of API numbers for different
groups of APIs. Or if the APIs are independent enough then it could
declare which ones are available and the plugins could declare which
ones they use.
