NMU for icedove

Hello,

Since icedove has an RC bug and Alexander Sack won't be back in a while,
I have prepared an NMU for icedove. As Alexander suggested, see the
correspondence below, the NMU fixes the following bugs:

#395095 Source package contains non-free IETF RFC

#393123 icedove: transitional thunderbird symlink doesn't start program

#393765 icedove.config is broken ; configuration and reconfiguration
does not change proper debconf setting

#393105 Need transition package thunderbird-gnome-support ->
icedove-gnome-support

Since I am not a debian developer (although I am the maintainer of
icedove-locales and enigmail-locales thanks to Alexander Sack's
sponsoring) I need someone who is a DD to adopt this NMU. Is someone on
this list is interested in getting this NMU into debian ?

Fixing #395095 required removing two files inside a .tar.bz2 archive
inside the .orig.tar.gz and could therefore not be easily represented in
a patch, all other changes since icedove 1.5.0.7-3 are represented by
the attached nmu.patch. The source and binary packages can be found at:
http://www.maths.lth.se/matematiklu/personal/hans/debian/icedove/

The changelog entry is:

icedove (1.5.0.7.0dfsg-0.1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non maintainer upload.
  * Removed non-dfsg compliant files:
    mozilla/directory/c-sdk/ldap/docs/draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-c-api-05.txt
    mozilla/netwerk/protocol/ftp/doc/rfc959.txt
    from archives/thunderbird-1.5.0.7-source-dfsg.tar.bz2. Required
    regeneration of the orig.tar.gz. Closes: #395095.
  * Fix so that the transitional "thunderbird" symlink really starts
    icedove. Done by creating a symlink /usr/lib/icedove/thunderbird-bin
    to /usr/lib/icedove/icedove-bin as suggested by Arthur Marsh.
    Closes: #393123.
  * Changed "thunderbird/browser" in icedove.config to
    "icedove/browser". Closes: #393765.
  * Added transitional package: thunderbird-gnome-support.
    Closes: #393105.

Hi ....

thanks for helping out ...

in order to get icedove in releasable shape we need to fix two more bugs
imo:

#393765: icedove: dpkg-reconfigure set to Gnome, but Gnome settings not
enabled, gnome support not recommended
<http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393765>

#393105: Need transition package thunderbird-gnome-support ->
icedove-gnome-support
<http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393105>

The last one should be easy ... the first one might be a typo in the
.postinst script. Maybe you can take a look?

If we have fixes for those two and you could verify that indeed all bugs
are fixed by your changes (double check), then we should definitly
nmu this. please CC me if you write to pkg-mozilla-maintainers on
anything related to this.

Cheers,

Alex

    Hello Alexander !

    Sorry for bothering you when away.

    Since icedove now has an RC bug,
    http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=395095 and you
    won't be back for another two weeks I was thinking about preparing
    an NMU for icedove, and then ask
    pkg-mozilla-maintainers at lists.alioth.debian.org
    <mailto:pkg-mozilla-maintainers at lists.alioth.debian.org> for a one
    time sponsor. I was also thinking on addressing
    http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393123
    <http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393123> at the
    same time. The changelog entry would be something like:

    icedove (1.5.0.7.0dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium

    * Non maintainer upload.
    * Removed non-dfsg compliant files:
       mozilla/directory/c-sdk/ldap/docs/draft-
    ietf-ldapext-ldap-c-api-05.txt
       mozilla/netwerk/protocol/ftp/doc/rfc959.txt
       from archives/thunderbird-1.5.0.7-source-dfsg.tar.bz2. Required
       regeneration of the orig.tar.gz. Closes: #395095.
    * Fix so that the transitional "thunderbird" symlink really starts
       icedove. Done by including icedove-393123.patch from Ted Percival.
       Closes: #393123.

    Do you think I should try to do this NMU ? If so; is there something
    I should do different from what I stated in the changelog above ?

    /Hans
