OK, I made other tests with a fresh-installed sid:

1) Iceweasel by default always shows the tab bar and now Ctrl-w closes
   both the tab and Iceweasel as well.

2) if I configured to hide the tab bar when only one tab is open
   (browser.tabs.autoHide=true), as I reported previously Ctrl-w closes
   Iceweasel.

It seems that something has changed since my last post on this bug (I do
not use Iceweasel anymore, since I co-maintain Conkeror...) and now the
behavior is consistent, finally.

Mike, if you can not find the relevant change/version to correclty mark
this bug, I would say to simply use the one I just tested, thus 3.5.6-1.
